iMessage is a good service, if you use an Apple device. When an iPhone user reacts to a message with a “I like it” or one “laughter”, Android users receive a separate text announcing the action. It's quite annoying.
The problem with iMessage reactions on Android
This is what is happening: iPhone user selects expression “I like it” in a conversation. Them, and other iMessage users in the conversation, they see a thumbs up emoji in the message. Despite this, Android users get a new message from that person saying “I liked”[message contents]. “
Then, What can you do to stop receiving these annoying messages? Well, any, really. You cannot completely block or remove them from the conversation. Despite this, we can do something to stop receiving notifications about them.
How to stop iMessage reaction notifications
We will use an application called “MacroDroid” to direct the notifications of those reactions. We will enter keywords to identify those messages, and then MacroDroid will immediately dismiss the notification if it matches. That way they won't bother you.
First, download MacroDroid from Google Play Store on your Android device. Open the app and skip the Pro version introduction and announcement.
Please select “Add macro” to start setting things up.
The first thing to do is create the “Trigger”. Touch the button “+” to continue.
Expand the category “Device events” and select “Notification”. You will need to grant access to app notifications.
Please select “Notification received” and touch “To accept”.
Choose “Choose application (it is)” and touch “To accept”.
This is where you will want to choose the application you use for texting.. Touch “To accept” after you have made your choice.
Leave everything as it is and touch “To accept”.
With the trigger done we can select the action. Touch the button “+” in the card “Actions”.
Expand the category “Notification” and select “Delete notifications”.
Choose “Choose application (it is)” and touch “To accept”.
Select your messaging app again and tap “To accept”.
Next, we will configure which notifications to discard. At the time of writing this post in October 2021, there are five iMessage reactions: beloved, I liked, I did not like, Serious, Emphasized and Questioned. When a text includes these keywords, we want MacroDroid to rule it out.
Please select “Contains” and then enter one of these five phrases in the text box. It is essential to include quotation marks after the phrase. That is what distinguishes it from a normal text that includes those phrases.
- Appreciated “
- I did not like “
- Laugh about “
- Emphasized “
- Disputed “
Repeat this until you have five actions, each with one of the previous sentences. Give the macro a name and then tap the button “+” to save it.
That is all! When this works, generally you will not notice anything. Notifications are dismissed before you can see them. Occasionally, one may take a second to discard, but in general it is very fast and you will never notice anything.
These messages will continue to appear in text conversations, in any case. You just won't be bothered by notifications for them.
Now, fix your iMessage problems, Apple. This should not be so hard.
