Noise-canceling headphones like the AirPods Pro keep conversations and other sounds out, but what happens when you want to hear them better? That's exactly what the Conversation Boost function is for. Here's how to turn it on.
What is Conversation Boost?
Apple doesn't explain exactly how Conversation Boost works, but the option for the function explains that the function is focused on the person speaking in front of you, which means he probably uses head tracking.
Apart of this, Conversation Boost will likely work equivalently to a prescription hearing aid. This increases the level of incoming audio in specific frequency ranges. (mainly the frequencies of the human voice). This processing prevents the overall volume from exceeding a specific level, so you don't have to worry about loud sounds becoming deafening.
Prescription hearing aids are tailored to a person's specific hearing needs, so Conversation Boost will not be as effective. Even so, if you need a hand to hear people speak, it certainly won't hurt.
Requirements for using Conversation Boost
First, Please note that this feature is only enabled on AirPods Pro, not the original AirPods.
At the same time, Conversation Boost is only enabled on iOS and iPadOS 15 and later. If you are not sure which version you are running, check out our guide to update to the latest version of iOS.
You will also need firmware version 4A400 or later. To check what version of firmware you are running, connects to AirPods Pro and iPhones to iPad, then open Settings.
In Settings, select General, later Regarding. In this section, scroll down until you see “AirPods Pro” y toque el nombre para ver su versión de firmware. You cannot manually update the firmware, but as long as you keep your AirPods Pro connected to your iPhone or iPad, they should update automatically in no time.
How to enable conversation momentum
Conversation Boost is not a standalone function. Instead, is a custom setting for Transparency Mode, a useful enhancement that makes AirPods Pro doable. That means to turn it on, we will have to go to the configuration.
Open Settings, then scroll down and select Accessibility. Here, scroll down and select “Audio / Visual” en la sección Audición.
Now touch “the feature is designed to help people with minor hearing impairments and will not replace a real hearing aid”, desplázate hacia abajo hasta la parte inferior y toca “the feature is designed to help people with minor hearing impairments and will not replace a real hearing aid” para editar su configuración.
Here, scroll to the bottom of the screen, donde encontrará la opción “Conversation Boost”. Tap the slider to activate it and you're good to go.
How to quickly turn transparency mode on or off
You can't turn Conversation Boost on or off without going into Settings. Having said this, Conversation Boost is a custom setting for transparency mode, that you can quickly turn on and off.
On your iPhone or iPad, pull down from the top right of the screen to enter the Control Center. Here, press and hold the volume control to enter the personalized settings of your AirPods Pro.
Below the volume slider, You should see “Noise control” a la izquierda y “Espacializar estéreo” on the right. Touch Noise Control to toggle between noise cancellation modes, shutdown and transparency. This enables you to quickly turn Conversation Boost on and off.
