Screen recording on Mac was vastly improved with macOS Mojave (entered for the first time in 2018). With nothing but a built-in app, can capture sound, mouse clicks, parts of your screen and more. Then, We tell you how to record the screen on your Mac.
Open the Screen Capture Utility on Mac
You can use the same tool to record the screen as you do to take screenshots. Open the Screenshot application using one of these methods:
- Press Command + Shift + 5.
- Use Spotlight (Command + Space), I searched “Screenshot” y elija la aplicación de los resultados.

Set your screen recording options
When you open Screenshot, you will see a toolbar at the bottom of the screen. The three options on the left of the toolbar are for screenshots, so it will start with the middle two for recordings.
One option is to record the entire screen. Click on “Grabar toda la pantalla” to do this.
The other alternative is to choose only one part. If you only want to capture part of your screen, click on “Grabar parte seleccionada”. Later, drag the dotted shape where you want it to go and resize it by dragging an edge or corner.
Before you start recording, click on “Choices”. At the top of the list, you can select a place to save your recording. Later, you can enter some useful recording functions.
When you need a few moments to prepare what's on your screen for recording, use the timer. You can select from 5 O 10 seconds from the moment you press Record until the recording begins.
If you want to include audio with your recording, select “Micrófono incorporado”. This is great for explaining what you are recording.
The option “Show floating thumbnail” es útil si va a demostrar cómo tomar una captura de pantalla. As you know, a thumbnail appears in the corner of your screen by default.
Do you need to show the steps you are taking on the screen? use option “Mostrar clics del mouse”. When you enable this, each click of your mouse is displayed as a circle. That way, your audience can see the steps in a sequence, or even in a single useful click.
If you change your mind about your screen recording, you can simply close the Screenshot app. Click on the “X” a la izquierda de la barra de herramientas o presione la tecla Escape.
Record your screen
Once you have configured your options, it's time to record. Push the button “Engrave” en la barra de herramientas de captura de pantalla. If you activated the timer, you will see how much time you have left to prepare on the Burn button.
A small Stop button will appear in the menu bar while capturing the screen. Click that button to stop recording.
Then go to the location you chose to save the recording to watch the video. Then, you can open the recording using the built-in preview program, your favorite video editing app.
