After buying a new Mac and opening the App Store, you may see a message asking you to adopt some apps. We will explain what that means and how to do it..
Why do I need “adopt” O “to accept” Applications?
When you buy a new Mac, computer ships with multiple applications packaged, like Pages, iMovie y Garageband, that don't regularly come with a default macOS installation. You can use these apps without adopting them, but to receive updates in the future, you will need to link them to an Apple ID.
Then, that's what it means to adopt an app: link bundled apps to an Apple ID so you can take ownership of those apps and receive future updates.
How to adopt apps on the Mac App Store
First, open the App Store app on your Mac and sign in with your Apple ID if necessary. Then, click on your Apple ID icon in the lower left corner of the App Store window.
On your Account screen, you will see a list of Mac applications you have purchased in the past. If there are applications to adopt, will be listed in a special section near the top, with the label “You have X apps to adopt”, where “X” is the number of applications waiting for adoption. Click the button “To accept”.
Subsequently, enter your Apple account ID and password, and then click “To accept”.
Thereafter, your apps will be taken over by your Apple ID account. Congratulations, you are now the proud guardian of several new apps! After that, Apple won't ask you again and there's nothing else to do. Just use the apps as you would regularly, and hope they don't ask for your car keys.
