Some people love reading receipts. Some people hate reading receipts. If you land in the last field and use Microsoft Teams, you'll be glad to know that you can disable read receipts for direct messages.
By default, Microsoft Teams users can turn off read receipts, but your admins can change that to force enable read receipts. If that's the case, can't disable them, but you can avoid sending them, until a certain point. We will also cover that.
How to disable read receipts
And Microsoft Teams, click on your profile picture in the upper right corner of the window and select “Setting”.
Navigate to the tablet “Privacy” and disable “Read receipts”.
If you have chats open in separate windows, you will need to close and reopen them for this to take effect in those chats. But otherwise, this works immediately.
How to avoid sending read receipts
If your administrators have forced read receipts to be activated for everyone, you will not be able to disable this setting. Despite this, read receipts are only triggered when you open a chat, so that, as long as I don't open the chat, a read receipt will not be sent.
This means you can be a bit sneaky about changing your notification settings to make sure chat responses show up on the banner.. The banner is the new message pop-up preview in the lower-right corner of Microsoft Teams. That way, you can read the messages that are sent to you without activating a read receipt.
To do this, click on your profile picture in the upper right corner of the window and select “Setting”.
Open the tab “Notifications”, then click the button “Edit” next to the option “Chat”.
Make sure that “@mentions” is configured as “Banner y feed” Y “Answers” is configured as “Banner”.
In this way, you can view chat messages in pop-up notifications without triggering read receipt. You can even reply from the notification preview without activating the read receipt, even if once I have answered, it will be obvious that you have read the message anyway.
