Teams is great for saving, share and collaborate on files. One thing that is missing is a recycle bin, therefore if you accidentally delete a file, How do you get it back? Next, explains how to restore deleted files from Microsoft Teams.
Every time you create a new team in Microsoft Teams, a SharePoint site is set up behind the scenes. Each channel has its own folder in the library “Documents” from that SharePoint site. If a file was deleted from Teams, the place to restore it is that SharePoint site.
RELATED: Where are your Microsoft Teams files stored?
To access the SharePoint site, open the tab “Records” in the Microsoft Teams app and click “Open in SharePoint”. Depending on the size of your screen, you may need to click on the three-dot menu icon to access the option.
This will open the SharePoint site attached to the computer (you may need to sign in to SharePoint first with your Microsoft account details). To view the files that have been deleted from your computer, click on “Recycle Bin”.
Select the file you want to restore by clicking the circle next to it, then choose the button “Restore”.
Now click on “Documents” and the folder that matches the channel the file was in (in this circumstance, the file was in the channel “Policies” and Teams).
The file you restored will now go back to the folder.
Go back to the Microsoft Teams app and click the refresh icon on the tab “Records” to view the restored file.
