Microsoft Outlook and other modern email clients have many plain white backgrounds. Despite this, it does not have to be this way. Whether you want a relaxing beige, an eye-catching image or something in between, Outlook enables you to customize your email backgrounds.
Customizing the background of your email can be a useful way to make a message stand out or advertise a personal brand.. You may just want to save your recipient from an eye-burning white background. After all, that gets a bit overwhelming after staring at a monitor all day.
Whatever the reason, adding color or an image to your email is easy. First, open a new email in Outlook. Place the cursor in the body and then click Options> Page Color.
Next, select a solid color if you want something simple (we choose a shade of light blue).
If you don't like the defaults, click on “More colors”.
Click on the tab “Personalized” and then use the controls to select the color you want.
If you are looking for some inspiration, here you have a full color palette with RGB and Hex values for all imaginable colors.
If the simple colored background is not suitable for you, or if you want to add an image instead, click on “Fill Effects”.
Here you will find four options to change the color gradient, the background texture or pattern of your email, or apply an image as a background.
“Gradient” allows you to select one or more colors and apply transparency and shading, like this relaxing mix of pastel yellow and blue with diagonal shading.
“Texture” allows you to select funds, like papyrus, White marble, woven mat, recycled paper and purple mesh (shown below).
“Patterns” offers a number of geometric designs with the option of two different colors. Sometimes, it is feasible that you just need to add a little touch, like the garish red and black motif shown below.
In summary, in the tab “Image”, you can select an image to use as a background. To start, click on “Watermark”.
This opens a file selector, so you can navigate to the image you want to use.
Select the image you want from your device, Bing or a cloud storage area, and then click “To accept”.
The image will now be the background of your email in Outlook.
You must apply these background effects every time you create a new email in Outlook. If you use one or more on a regular basis, you can create a template to save time and effort later.
