To do basic arithmetic in Word, you regularly have to open the Windows calculator to get your answers and then manually insert them into Word. Despite this, there is a third-party plugin for Word that provides a pop-up calculator that will calculate the numbers in your document and automatically insert the solution.
As an example, if you are a teacher creating a worksheet with some basic math problems for your students, You can easily create an answer key for yourself using this pop-up calculator. We'll show you how to install and use the Calculator Popup plugin.
Installing the pop-up calculator in Word is a little different than installing other programs, therefore we will go through the installation procedure. To start, download Popup Calculator for Word from your home page and extract the .zip file. Subsequently, double click on the file Instl_WordCalculator.exe.
In the pop-up Calculator for Word dialog box that appears, click on “Continue”.
A read-only Word document appears with buttons to install, uninstall and exit the document. Click on “Install”.
NOTE: If you decide you want to uninstall the pop-up calculator in the future, just run the installer again and click “Uninstall” in this document.
To install the pop-up calculator in Word, you must start Word with administrative privileges; despite this, the installer will do it for you. Just click on “To accept” in the Install dialog box that appears, as it's shown in the following.
If the User Account Control dialog box appears, click on “Yes” to continue.
NOTE: You may not see this dialog, based on User Account Control settings.
In the Install as COM Add-in dialog box, accept the default selection of “EXCLUSIVE”. If you want to install this pop-up calculator for all users, select the check box “For all users of this Windows, including those who do not have an administrator level ". Click on “Continue”.
In the Use License Agreement dialog box, read the license and then click “To accept” to continue.
The installation completes and a reminder dialog box appears telling you that the pop-up calculator will be available from the context menu once you restart Word. Click ok”.
Restart Word and open the file that contains the numbers you want to calculate. Select the numbers to be calculated, right click on the selection and select “Calculator” in the pop-up menu.
The Multiple Capture dialog box shows the total captured and the numbers captured to get that total. To enter the pop-up calculator, click on “To accept”. If you don't want to enter the pop-up calculator, click on “Cancel”.
The pop-up calculator is shown with the solution.
NOTE: The pop-up calculator may not appear near the cursor. To move the calculator, click and hold the title bar and drag the calculator to where you want.
To insert the result of the pop-up calculator, first move the cursor to where you want the result to appear. While the pop-up calculator is open, you can click on the Word document to activate it and then click where you want to place the cursor.
To insert the calculator result at the cursor, you can click the button “To accept”, or press the down arrow or key “Tab” on the keyboard.
The result is inserted into the cursor and the pop-up calculator closes automatically.
Alternatively, you can copy the result to the Windows clipboard by pressing the key “Shift” while clicking “To accept” or by pressing the down arrow or key “Tab” on the keyboard.
If you have a numeric keypad on your keyboard and you want to use it to perform the calculation, do not select any number. Simply right click on the cursor and select “Calculator” in the pop-up menu.
When you don't select anything before entering the pop-up calculator, the character or the word (no spaces) to the left of the cursor is automatically selected. Again, click in the Word window to activate it and place the cursor where you want to insert the result.
Use the numeric keypad to calculate the numbers and press the down arrow or the “Tabulator” to insert the result at the cursor.
The pop-up calculator also comes with a paper tape like some manual calculators have., where you can see the history of your calculations. To enter the paper belt, click on “Paper” in the calculator title bar.
The paper tape appears on the top of the calculator. You can reuse any of the previous numbers or results by clicking on them.
NOTE: If the pop-up calculator is too small, you can resize it by moving the cursor over a corner of the calculator until it turns into a bidirectional arrow and click and drag the corner out to enlarge the calculator. Despite this, next time i open calculator, will return to its original size.
I do not suggest you use the Exit menu command to close the calculator. For me, locked calculator. If you find a locked calculator, close Word completely (close all files). This should also close all open calculators.
