How to easily insert formatted date and time in Microsoft Word

There are several reasons for inserting the current date and time into your document. You may want to insert it into a letter or a header or footer. Whatever the reason, Word makes it easy to insert the date and time into a document.

If you want the date and time to update automatically when you open or print the document, you can insert it as a field that updates automatically. The field can also be updated manually at any time.

To insert the date and time in your document, open a new or existing document in Word and press the tab “Insert” on the tape.

In the section “Text” of the tab “Insert”, click on “Date and Time”.

NOTE: You may need to enlarge the Word window to see the full label on the button “Date and Time”. If you can't enlarge the window, You can find the button by searching for the icon shown in the button below. If there is no space for a button label on the ribbon, icon is displayed.

highlight the content and click the tab “Date and Time”. Select a format for the date, the time or both from the list. For the date and / or the time is automatically updated, Word add-ins “auto update” so there is a check mark in the box. Click OK.”

The date and / or the time are inserted into your document. If you choose to update automatically, is inserted as a field. When you place the cursor in the field, a button appears “To update” on the field that allows you to update the field manually at any time. Also you can press “F9” to update the field, when the cursor is on it.

If you decide that you no longer want the date and / or the time is automatically updated, you can highlight the field or place the cursor in the field and press “Ctrl + Shift + F9 ”to unlink the field. You might want to update the field before unlinking it so that it is dated and / or the current time once you are unlinked.
