How to find a style you don't see on the Home tab in Microsoft Word

Contents

By default, Microsoft Word does not display all built-in styles on the Home tab or Styles panel. Then, What if you pretend to use a style that you don't see?

Styles save you a lot of time and provide consistency when formatting your documents. They are available on the Home tab and the Styles panel, and there are many built-in styles that you can use or customize to your liking.

Despite this, I often use the Heading style 3 Built-in not enabled on the Home tab or Styles panel initially when I create a new Word document. Notice that in the image above, title 1 and the title 2 They're available, but not the title 3.

We're going to change a setting to show all built-in styles in the Styles panel so you can quickly apply a style to a paragraph. Click on the tab “Beginning”, if it is not the active tab yet. After, Click the button “styles” in the lower right corner of the Styles section.

The Styles panel appears. It can be a floating panel or you can attach the panel to either side of the Word window by dragging it there. At the bottom of the panel, click on the link “Choices”.

In the Styles Pane Options dialog, select “all styles” in the drop down list “Choose styles to display”.

If you want all the built-in styles to be available in the Styles panel every time you create a new document based on the template attached to the current document (which is the default Normal template), select “New documents based on this template” option. Click ok”.

All built-in styles are now available in the Styles panel.

Despite this, you still won't see all the built-in styles in the Styles section of the Home tab. Once you apply a style to a paragraph, that style will be available in the Home tab. In our example, we apply the Title 3 to a paragraph and is now enabled on the Home tab.

If you selected “New documents based on this template” in the Styles Panel Options dialog, you will see all the built-in styles in the styles panel every time you create a new document based on that template.
