PayPal is an excellent online payment service, but it records your entire transaction history with no way to delete it. If you want to delete your transaction history, you will have to permanently delete your PayPal account.
What you need to know before deleting your account
There are some important things to know before proceeding. Unlike social media accounts where you generally have the option to deactivate your account instead of deleting it, you don't have that option with PayPal. You can only delete your account and, once i do, the account and all the data that accompany it will disappear permanently. If there is any account information you may need in the future, you should download it.
Of course, can create a new bill (even with the same email address), but PayPal will consider it a totally different account; it is not feasible to recover the previous one.
In addition, you must pay off any debt or outstanding balances in your account to close it.. If you owe something or if you have pending payments, cannot close your account. You must also withdraw (the spend) the money you have in your PayPal account.
At the same time, if you are using PayPal for business rather than personal use and you have not provided all the necessary documentation to verify your account, you will not be able to delete it. You heard right. You can use your account but you can't to close without completing the account verification procedure. Strange.
By last, before deleting your PayPal account, you may want to download your account history in case you need to refer to it in the future. Because, as we already mentioned, once your account disappears, also does the data.
How to download your account history
To download your account history, go to PayPal Official Website, log in to your account, and then click the “Reports”.
In the left panel, click on “Activity download”.
On the Activity Download page, you can choose what types of transactions you want to download (as completed payments), the date range of transactions (up to 7 years) and the report file format (as CSV or PDF ). Once you've decided all of this, Click the button “Create Report”.
Later you will see a notification that will tell you that they will send you an email when your report is ready to download. It might take a while, according to the number of transactions in the report. Make sure to wait until you can download the file before deleting your account, as you will need to log back into your account to get the report once it is ready.
Once you receive the email indicating that your report is ready, you can download it from the same page where you created the report.
Permanently remove your PayPal account
To permanently delete your PayPal account and transaction history, open any browser on your desktop, go to PayPal Official Websiteand then log in to the Paypal account you want to delete. Once in your account, click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the window.
A drop-down menu will appear. Click on “Account settings”.
On the Account Settings page, click on “Account preferences” in the left panel.
At the bottom of this page, you will see “Account type”. This could be “excel template” O “Commercial”, based on what you selected when creating the account. Either way, Click the button “Close account” to the right of the Account Type option.
Then, you will be asked why you want to delete your account. Check the relevant boxes by clicking on them, type the comments that you want to leave in the text box and then click “Continue”.
They will ask you to confirm that you want to close your account and, according to the boxes you have marked in the previous step, they will leave you a specialized message trying to convince you to stay.
If you are sure you want to permanently delete your account, click on “Continue”.
Warning: Once you do this, your account and all attachments will no longer be accessible. Make sure you want to delete the account before continuing.
Your PayPal account and all data (including your transaction history) are now permanently deleted.
