You can also set a default microphone in some applications
Before starting, It is important to note that in some applications (how to zoom, as an example) you can choose your microphone device within the app, and that choice will work regardless of the Windows system sound settings.
You can also assign which microphone you would like to use application by application using a hidden menu in Settings. But if you want to set your default microphone for the whole system, follow the steps below. All apps that use the Windows default microphone, that's the default option for most apps, they will use it.

How to select your default microphone using settings
You can easily choose your default microphone in Settings. First, abra “Setting” clicking on the menu “Beginning” and selecting the gear icon on the left. You can also press Windows + i to quickly open it.

Furthermore you can set your default microphone using the classic Control Panel. You can access it using the speaker icon in the systray, which is on the far side of the taskbar, in front of the Start menu.
