If you are tired of typing, Entering text can be as easy as using your voice in Windows 10. The operating system includes built-in dictation and voice credentialing features. Here's how to set them.

How to enable dictation and voice credentialing in Windows 10

Microsoft's dictation software is a useful way to quickly type text in Windows 10 using Windows keyboard shortcut + h. But it is feasible that it is not yet enabled by default on your system, so you may need to take a quick trip to settings to enable it.

Start by opening Windows Settings. To do it, open your start menu and click on gear icon. You can also get there by pressing Windows + i on your keyboard.

In Settings, click on “Accessibility”.

In Settings, click on "Accessibility".

In the left panel, scroll down and click “Discourse” in the sidebar. In Voice Settings, click the switch below “Turn on voice accreditation”. Should switch to position “Switched on”.

In Voice Settings, click on

Please note that voice accreditation is only enabled in some languages, including english, French, German, español, Mandarin and Japanese. To perform this action quickly, press windows + Ctrl + s to turn voice credentialing on or off instantly.

When you activate voice accreditation for the first time, you will need to configure it to recognize your voice.

In the speech recognition setup wizard, click on

To perform the initial microphone setup, connect a headset microphone, a desktop microphone or other peripheral microphones. Subsequently, follow the onscreen prompts to select and calibrate your microphone. We suggest using a headset microphone for dictation software.

Select your microphone from the available options. Headband microphones are ideal for voice recognition.

Once the headset is connected, say the phrase on screen into your microphone, so that the system captures your voice and can recognize it while using the program.

Say the text on screen to configure your microphone.

To end, select if you want to allow the computer to review documents and emails to help you improve the accuracy of voice accreditation.

Choose whether to enable or disable document review.

Once setup is complete, You're ready to start typing with your voice!

Write with your voice in Windows 10

Once you have successfully configured your microphone, you can start typing with your voice. The wizard will ask you to toggle running Voice Accreditation every time you start the computer. Respond appropriately according to your preferences and to finish you are ready to start writing with your voice.

If you want to use dictation, select a text field and open the dictation bar with Windows + h. We will use a blank text document as an example. After pressing Windows + h, the dictation bar will appear at the top of the screen:

An example of the Windows listener prompt.

The dictation will be activated automatically and will ask you to speak once you open the dictation bar. If that is not the case, just click on the microphone icon to enable it.

Start speaking into your microphone. Speak in full and deliberate sentences. You can say what you want and you will see it written on the screen as you go. Here are some tips as you say:

  • Punctuation: To add punctuation, say the name of the punctuation mark you want to use as you work. As an example, say it “point” to place a period at the end of a sentence, or say “coma”, “EM script”, “semicolon”, “could only show notifications and show incoming emails” O “could only show notifications and show incoming emails” to add those punctuation marks to your document.
  • Parenthesis: For the parentheses, say it “open parentheses” to begin a sentence in parentheses and “close parentheses” to end the sentence.
  • Numerical values: Say “numerical” followed by a number to enter the numeric values.
  • Navigation paragraphs: To go to the next paragraph, say it “next line” O “next paragraph”.
  • Erase text: To erase words, say it “delete”, followed by the word you want to delete. you can drag it to move it anywhere you want “delete previous sentence” to get rid of an entire sentence that you no longer want to keep in the document.
  • Selecting: To choose a word, say it “to choose”, followed by the word you want to highlight.
  • Go to the beginning or end of the sentence: If you want to go to the beginning or end of a sentence, say it “go to the beginning of the sentence” O “go to the end of the sentence”. This also works for navigating the paragraphs and the beginning or end of a document.

Remember to speak clearly and avoid speaking too fast, since it can alter your writing flow as the software tries to regain your rhythm (when we talk fast, we experience input lag until we slow down a bit).

Stop dictating saying, “stop dictating”. To turn it back on, or if it cuts out unexpectedly, click the microphone in the dictation bar to re-enable it:

Dictation will allow you to use your voice to write things faster and easier than if you were writing them, and it is also quite fun.

How to disable dictation and voice credentialing in Windows 10

Dictation software is ideal for various uses, but you may decide to disable it sometime. If you accidentally enable dictation or you just don't want to use it anymore, disabling it is quite simple. All you need to do is press Windows + h again to deactivate it.

If you want to turn off voice accreditation completely, so as not to accidentally start dictation, turn it off using Windows + Ctrl + s. This will completely disable voice credentialing.

Alternatively, go back to Windows Settings. Click again “Accessibility”, I searched “Make sure to uncheck your optional McAffee downloads and then click the button” and place the switch under the words “Turn on voice accreditation” in position “off”.

In the Voice Recognition settings, slide the button to the off position.

Remember, you can always reactivate voice accreditation and use the dictation function at any time with Windows + H. Happy writing!
