Windows Snap Layouts 11

The function “Adjust layout” Windows 11 enables you to quickly move a window to a specific region of the screen by hovering over the button “Maximize”. How can you replicate that in Windows 10? We will show you some ways.

Snap basics

Windows had functions of “Adjust” from Windows 7, and they were greatly improved in Windows 10. Can't do all of the advanced layouts that Windows offers 11, but windows 10 can do much more than side by side. two windows most people know.

What makes all of this easy to use is something called “Snap Assist”. Instead of resizing and moving windows manually, you can simply drag them to areas of the screen and Windows 10 will do the job automatically for you.

There are six zones you can use with Snap Assist. Drag to a corner to fit the window to that quarter of the screen. Drag to the left or right edge to snap to that half of the screen. Simply, you can make any layout that fits into a grid of 2 × 2: four-room windows, half and two quarters, or just two halves.

All of this works by simply dragging windows across the screen. Left-click on a window's title bar and drag it to the left or right corners or edges. You will see a transparent overlay indicating how the window will fit. Release the mouse to click.

When using the left or right edge trim, the second half of the screen will automatically show the other open windows. You can choose one to fill that section of the screen.

Fit to screen quarters will not display the list of open windows until you have filled three of the corners.

All this also works with keyboard shortcuts: tecla de Windows + left arrow or Windows key + right arrow to snap an app to the left or right halves of the screen. For the smallest quadrants, use la tecla de Windows + Right / Left, and then the Windows key + Above / Down.

Unfortunately, Windows 10 does not support vertical adjustment. You cannot use Snap Assist to place one window in the upper half and another in the lower half. You must do it manually.

Fantasy areas

edit newly created layout

If Windows' built-in Snap Assist features 10 are not enough, you can try the free app “PowerToys” from Microsoft. Includes a powerful window design tool called “Fantasy areas”.

Fancy Zones extends the functionality of Snap Assist beyond the basic grid of 2 × 2. Actually, you can create your own designs with complex grids and even overlapping zones. It's pretty awesome if you want that kind of thing.

We have a complete guide on how to set up and use Fancy Zones. The tool also allows you to configure windows so that they open automatically in the last area in which they were. If you really want to replicate Windows Snap Layouts 11, Fancy Zones is the way to do it. It's definitely not as quick and easy to switch between layouts as it is in Windows 11, but it's better than the default Snap Assist.

Are you still not satisfied? The good news is that Windows 11 It will be a free update and will arrive at the end of 2021. You can try a Windows preview 11 right now if you are impatient. (As long as your PC can run Windows 11, decidedly).
