Windows has some conventional settings that control when your PC goes to sleep. Nevertheless, It is possible that, at certain times, want to keep your PC awake longer than normal. Maybe you have a download that you know will take a long time. Instead of changing the settings at the system level, simplemente puede usar la herramienta “Awake” para hacerlo a pedido.
If you are not familiar with Microsoft PowerToys, it's quite a powerful tool collection. The Awake tool is just one of many things that you can use to tweak and improve the Windows experience.

How to get Microsoft PowerToys
PowerToys can be downloaded from Microsoft GitHub page. The application is free and open source. Download the latest version EXE file (avoid experimental versions) and click the file to install it.
To access the FancyZones settings after installing the application, open it from the system tray on the taskbar.
Cómo utilizar la herramienta “Awake”
With the PowerToys window open, select “Wake” in the sidebar menu and activate “Enable Wake Up”.
First, you will see the option “Keep screen on” on “Behaviour”. If you enable this, not only the PC will remain active, but the screen will also stay on.
Next, we can choose the way to use. There are three different options to choose from:
- disabled (passive): Your PC will use the system settings to determine when to sleep.
- Stay awake indefinitely: Your PC will stay active until you turn it off or disable the settings.
- Stay awake temporarily: You can choose a set period of time for how long the PC stays awake.
Select one of the modes.
If you select temporary mode, you can use the boxes below to select the hours and minutes.
That is the basic way to use the Awake tool, but there is actually an even easier way to do it once you have enabled it. Open the Notification Area, comúnmente llamada “Bandeja del sistema”, and right click on the coffee cup icon.
A small menu will open, y puede seleccionar “Keep screen on” y pasar el mouse sobre “Way” para cambiar el modo desde aquí.
To deactivate Awake, simplemente use los mismos métodos descritos anteriormente y vuelva a cambiarlo a “disabled (passive)”.
That is all! Now, it can keep your PC awake for those situations where you don't want it to interrupt something. Whatever it is, now you have a useful trick to do it.
