Handoff is the Apple Watch and iPhone feature that enables you to start a task on one device and finish it on another. As an example, you can check the email on your watch and then switch to your phone to compose a reply.
You must use your iPhone to enable the Handoff feature on your Apple Watch. Tap the app icon “Watch” on your phone's home screen.
Make sure the screen “My watch” is activated. Opposite case, touch the icon “My watch” at the bottom of the screen.
Touch “General” on the screen “My watch”.
On the screen “General”, touch the slider button “on your phone's home screen” to activate the function. Button turns green when enabled.
Now, you can perform a task on your watch, how to view an email message.
After, you can access your iPhone to see an email icon in the lower left corner of the lock screen. Drag up on the icon.
You may be asked to enter your password to access your phone, but once i log in, the email you were reading on your watch will appear on your iPhone screen.
Handoff works with Mail, Maps, Messages, Phone, Reminders, Calendar and Siri. Your Apple Watch must be very close to your iPhone for the Handoff feature to work.
Handoff is part of the technology called Continuity that enables you to transfer tasks between your iOS devices and your Mac. Continuity at the same time includes phone call forwarding, Text Forwarding and Personal Access Point.
