How to close all Safari tabs at once on iPhone and iPad

If you have dozens of tabs open in Safari on the iPhone or iPad and you need to quickly delete them, can be tedious “X” delete them one by one. Fortunately, there are two alternatives to close all Safari tabs at the same time and they also work in private browsing mode. That's how.

First, abra “Safari” on your iPhone or iPad. On any page, locate the tab switch button, that looks like two overlapping squares. On the iPad, you will find it in the upper right corner of the screen.

Put your finger on the tab switch button and hold it there for a moment, performing a “long pressure”. In the menu that appears, select “Close all tabs”. (There will be a number in the option that lists the number of open tabs).

When Safari asks you to confirm with another pop-up window, press “Close all tabs” again. Thereafter, all your browser tabs will be closed.

How to close all Safari tabs on the tab switch screen

There is another way to quickly close all tabs in Safari on iPhone and iPad. First, abra “Safari”, then tap the tab switch button once.

On the tab change screen, locate the “Ready”, found in the upper-right corner of the screen on the iPad and in the lower-right corner of the screen on the iPhone.

We would really prefer that there was simply an option of type “Ready”: place and hold your finger there for a moment until a popup appears.

On the iPhone or iPad, hold the button

In the pop-up window, select “Close all tabs”. The exact name of the pop-up action will vary, depending on the number of tabs you have open.

Safari will ask you to confirm closing all tabs with another pop-up message. Please select “Close all tabs” again. Then, all Safari tabs will be closed instantly. The same action works in private browsing mode. Very useful!

How to reopen recently closed tabs

If you accidentally closed all your tabs and want to get them back, you can retrieve them one by one as long as you are not in private browsing mode. Just tap the tab switch button, then press and hold the button “+” until a list of “Recently closed tabs”. From there, you can tap the entries in the list to open them again in Safari. Good luck!
