Apple iPhone Airplay controls with a symbol

If you have an iPhone linked to a HomePod or Apple TV and someone else starts playing media like a song, a video or podcast, you will see media controls on your iPhone lock screen that may be accidentally affected. Here's how to hide them.

Can you disable all media playback controls from iPhone lock screen?

If you use an iPhone, you are probably familiar with the playback window, pause and volume control that appears on the lock screen every time you play a song, video, podcast or any other medium. Some people find these controls annoying because it is easy to press them by accident., reproducing (or stopping) means when you don't want it.

Unfortunately, you can't always disable these controls. They will always appear when you play something from your iPhone.

In other words, the technique listed below will not hide the media control panel from the normal iPhone lock screen. Hopefully, Apple will offer that as an option in the future.. For now, we have discovered a way to hide the AirPlay controls that appear on the lock screen when someone uses a paired device.

How to Hide iPhone Lock Screen Playback Controls

In the media control panel of your iPhone lock screen, tap the blue AirPlay icon located just to the right of the currently playing media title.

In the AirPlay menu that appears, touches “Control other speakers and televisions” at the bottom of the device list.

In the iPhone AirPlay menu, touches "Control other speakers and televisions".

In the next menu that appears, Touch “iPhone” at the top of the device list. By doing this, you are letting your iPhone know that you do not want to control the remote AirPlay device with your iPhone at this time.

On the menu, Touch

After touching “iPhone”, you will see a small iPhone media player window on the lock screen that will look something like this. But we still have not finished.

Next, you will see the usual iPhone media controls on your screen.

To get rid of iPhone media playback screen (as long as the media is not actively playing on your device), put your iPhone to sleep by pressing the side button or the top button (according to your device).

When you turn your iPhone screen back on (by pressing a button or otherwise), the media controls on the lock screen will disappear.

After turning the iPhone back on, the controls will disappear.

We can't say it's simple or easy, but it works.

Now, hopefully Apple will allow us to disable this (and other lock screen media playback controls) with a configuration in the future, instead of making us go through a series of strange steps. Good luck!
