How to reset the printing system on your Mac

Contents

Printers are known to fail often. A quick restart of the printer or computer generally fixes most intermittent problems, but occasionally it is better to reset the print settings and reinstall the printer completely. Consider this a final troubleshooting step; better try other options first. You can read our guide to fixing printing problems in macOS for other possible solutions.

Restart the printing system

I searched “Printers” en Spotlight o abra la configuración de “Printers and scanners” en las Preferencias del sistema.

The Printers and Scanners window displays a list of all connected printers. If you right click on any of them, You can choose “Restablecer sistema de impresión” in the context menu.

Choosing this command clears all current settings and removes everybody printers on the list (not just the one you right clicked). To prevent me from doing it by accident, you will need to enter your password.

Since it removes all printers from the configuration, you will have to re-add them manually. Asegúrese de que su impresora esté conectada y haga clic en el botón “+” at the bottom of the list. You can view the connected printers or add a wireless printer over the network.

There are some printers that you cannot add from this dialog. if you have difficulty reinstalling a printer, check your printer manual or search online for an installer for your printer model.
