How to see how big your Mac's internal storage is

Storing data on your Mac is essential: determine how many applications, documents, photos and videos can store your computer locally. If you reach the upper limit, your Mac may not perform as well as you expected. Next, Here's how to check the size of your Mac's internal storage.

First, click logo “Apple” in the upper left corner of your screen and select “Regarding this Mac” on the menu.

Click on the Apple logo in the upper left corner of your screen and select "About this Mac".

In the window that appears, Click the button “Storage”. (In some older versions of macOS, this button may appear as a tab).

In the window "About this Mac", click the button or tab "Storage".

When the screen loads “Storage”, you will see a list of your internal drives and the capacity of each drive. In our example, this MacBook Pro includes only one drive with “500 GB of flash storage”.

In the & quot; Storage" tab, you will see your internal drive size listed.

You will also see how much free disk space you have available on each drive, that appears just below each drive name.

If you want more details about your internal storage, Click the button “General description”, then click on “System report”.

In the window “System information”, click on “Storage”, in the sidebar, and you will see detailed information about all your units. You will see the size of your Mac's internal storage in “Capacity”.

In this example, the exact capacity of the unit is 494,38 GB, which is less than the “500 GB of internal flash storage” what we saw previously. That's because "500GB" is the size of the unformulated drive.. Once formatted by macOS, the unit has 494,38 GB of space available for use.

If what you found in your search was disappointing, it is feasible to increase the size of the internal storage on some MacBooks and desktop Macs by installing a new SSD or larger hard drive.
