When you close Microsoft Teams, continues to run in the background, occupying resources and sending you notifications. But change a single setting and closing the app will truly stop it. Next, We show you how to exit Microsoft Teams every time you close the application on Windows and Mac.

When you close an application, in general you expect it to close, not live in the background silently absorbing precious CPU cycles, memory and bandwidth. Of course, some apps like OneDrive, Dropbox or your antivirus are generally “always active”, but running all the time is part of the goal of applications like these that have to monitor things.

But by default, if you close Microsoft Teams, keeps running in the background so it can send you notifications. To shut it down completely, you need to close it in systray or via task manager (in Windows) or Activity Monitor (on a mac).

Despite this, there is a simple setting you can change that will force Teams to close completely when you close the app regularly.

In the Microsoft Teams app, click on your profile picture and select “Setting”.

The menu option "Setting".

On the General tab, scroll down to section “App” and uncheck the option “At closing, keep the app running”.

The menu option "At closing, keep the app running".

No need to save or restart the application. As soon as I uncheck that checkbox, Microsoft Teams app will close completely when prompted.
