How to display all mail as plain text in Outlook

Contents

Reading mail in plain text can be a big relief for complicated formatting, Not to mention, it's faster to open and more secure than HTML-heavy emails.. Next, explains how to use plain text as default in Outlook.

Before getting into how to do this, It is important to note that plain text has advantages and disadvantages, for both sender and receiver. The main drawback of plain text is that it does not have formatting or online features such as images or links.. Most of the mail you read will look at least a little different if you read it in plain text, and some emails will be almost unreadable if they have a large format.

Despite this, there are also benefits. Plain text is more secure because nothing is hidden. There can be no embedded tracking images or hidden phishing URLs (because if the url is visible in plain text, you will see the full url, instead of whatever text the sender wants you to see). For this reason, automated scanners are less likely to view plain text emails you send as dangerous or malicious because plain text simply cannot be as dangerous as HTML. (This does not mean that someone hypocrisy send you a malicious link in plain text, but it's much harder to trick you into clicking it).

With that in mind, here's how to read all messages in plain text, send all messages in plain text and send only a single message in plain text.
