How to center text vertically on page in Microsoft Word

Do you need to create a cover page for a report you are writing? You can create a simple but professional cover by centering the text both horizontally and vertically. Centering text horizontally on a page is easy, but vertically? That's easy too and we'll show you how.

Before centering the text on the cover, you should separate the cover from the rest of your report, so that only the cover text is centered vertically. To do this, place the cursor just before the text you want in the new section and insert a section break “Next page”.

NOTE: If you have headers or footers in your report, you can omit them from your cover, while keeping them in the rest of the report, setting multiple headers and footers.

Once your cover page is in a separate section from the rest of your report, place the cursor anywhere on the cover.

Click on the tab “Page design”.

Click the button “Page setup” in the lower right corner of the section “Page setup” of the tab “Page design”.

In the dialog “Page setup”, click on the tab “Design”.

In the section “Page”, select “Center” from the drop-down list “Vertical alignment”.

Your cover text is now vertically centered on the page.

Centering text vertically can also improve the appearance of short documents, like a business letter or a cover letter, or any other type of short document where the content does not occupy the entire page.
