How to disable automatic capitalization in Microsoft Word

Contents

If you don't like the automatic capitalization where Microsoft Word fixes what it thinks are errors with capital letters, you can completely disable that feature or just customize it to suit your needs.

To disable capitalization autocorrect, click on the tab “File”.

On the backstage screen, click on “Choices” in the list of items on the left.

Click on “Revision” en la lista de elementos en el lado izquierdo del cuadro de diálogo Opciones de Word.

In the AutoCorrect options section, Click the button “AutoCorrect Options”.

The AutoCorrect dialog box appears with the AutoCorrect tab active. At the top of the tab, uncheck the boxes for the options you don't want Word to correct (shown in the red box below). If you have finished making changes to these options, click on “To accept”. Nevertheless, there is more you can do with these options, if you prefer not to disable them completely. To know the exceptions that you can apply, leave the AutoCorrect dialog box open and read on.

If you prefer to leave these options activated, you can use the Exceptions button to add specific items that you want to be exempted from the rules and not automatically corrected.

In the AutoCorrect Exceptions dialog box, you can add words you don't want Word to correct. The First Letter tab is for words that would normally be corrected for the first letter of sentences and table cells. The LEADING CAPS tab allows you to add exceptions for words, What “ID”, with two of the first two letters capitalized, but not the rest. Add any other exceptions to the Other Fixes tab. Click on “To accept” When it's over.

Click on “To accept” en el cuadro de diálogo Autocorrección y luego nuevamente en el cuadro de diálogo Opciones de Word para cerrar ambos cuadros de diálogo.

If you disable the AutoCorrect capitalization options, you may want to turn on the feature that checks spelling as you type, so you don't miss capitalization errors.
