Some applications require you to run a certain version of Java to function properly. You can check which version of Java you have installed using a graphical tool or through the command line.
Check your Java version graphically
If you prefer to avoid the command line, You can use the Related to Java utility to find the installed Java version.
To use this method, open the menu “Beginning”, I searched “Regarding Java” and, next, click on the first result.
Here, you will see your current version of Java on the first line.
If you don't see Relating to Java in the Start menu, I searched “Configure Java” and click on it. Then click “In relation to” to view your Java version.
Note: If you don't see the Related to Java or Configure Java tools, you probably don't have java installed. You can Download it from the official Oracle web portal.
Check your Java version using command prompt
You can also check your Java version from the command line.
To start, open the menu “Beginning”, I searched “Symbol of the system”, then click the shortcut “Symbol of the system” in search results.
When command prompt opens, type the following command at the command prompt and press “To enter”.
java -version
You will see “java version” and some numbers next to you. These numbers are your Java version.
If the command prompt says that Java is not recognized as an internal or external command, it is probably due to the system variables not being set correctly, or maybe you don't have Java installed. Reinstall Java on your PC and this should fix the problem for you.
If you use Ubuntu together with Windows, there is a command you can use to check if java is installed on your Ubuntu based computer. And if it's not that way, you can install it quite easily.
