How to install (and delete) font files in Windows 10

Windows 10 ships with many fonts installed automatically, but if you like graphic design, you may want to install more. Alternatively, you may have problematic fonts that you need to remove. Next, explains how to install or remove fonts in File Explorer.

Installing fonts with File Explorer

In Windows 10, you can install fonts in TrueType formats (.ttf), OpenType (.otf), TrueType Collection (.ttc) o PostScript Type 1 (.pfb + .pfm). If you have font files available that you would like to install, find its location in File Explorer.

To install a font file, right-click the font file in File Explorer and select “Install” (to install it only for your user account) O “Install for all users” (to install it in the whole system) in the menu that appears.

Tip: If you've downloaded a font file and don't see the option “Install”, the file may be in a file, as a ZIP file. You will need to extract the contents of the file to install it.

After clicking “Install”, you will see a small pop-up window showing you the progress of the installation.

Alternatively, to install a font throughout the system, at the same time can open C:WindowsFonts and drag the font file you want to install directly to that folder.

Remove fonts with File Explorer

At the same time it is easy to delete or remove fonts in Windows 10 using File Explorer. First, navigate to Windows fonts folder. To get there quickly, open a File Explorer window, paste the path C:WindowsFonts in the address bar at the top of the window and hit Enter.

Once it's open, find the font you want to delete in the folder. Select the font file you want to delete and click the button “Remove” in the toolbar. (Alternatively, you can right click on the font file and select “Remove” on the menu).

Warning: Before deleting a font, make sure you want to delete it. Once it is removed, font file does not go to Recycle Bin, disappears permanently.

The font will be removed. Repeat these steps for any other fonts you want to remove. Just be careful not to delete anything important.

Another way to manage fonts

If you are not comfortable with fonts in File Explorer, at the same time it is possible to manage Windows fonts 10 using Settings. Just open Settings and visit Personalization> Sources. There at the same time you can see, manage, install and remove fonts. Have fun!
