Do you use Edge as your default browser? Why not? You should come back right now. That is the message you will see soon every time you open the Windows Settings app 10, courtesy of Microsoft.
This change is part of the upcoming Windows 21H1 update 10, that will arrive sometime in the spring of 2021. Microsoft says it's “exploring” include this in windows, so there is no guarantee that it will reach the final stable version. Nevertheless, many Windows Insiders users who use build up 20197 they are already seeing it.
In its initial state, now an icon appears “Web navegation” next to the OneDrive and Windows Update icons in the Settings app header. If you are not using Microsoft Edge as your default browser, Will ask you to “Restore recommended settings” from the browser.
If you click the icon, the Settings app will ask you to set the new Edge as your default browser and pin it to your desktop and taskbar.
There is no way to dismiss the recommendation if you prefer Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or another browser.
This icon, next to the Windows Update icon, it's a bit misleading: using Edge as your default browser is a preference, but installing Windows Updates is essential for security.
This is just the latest way Microsoft is pushing Edge. Microsoft has previously pushed the Edge browser via taskbar pop-up ads, for instance.
