Windows 11 adds a great feature to the Linux KDE desktop

Whenever a new version of Windows is released, many minor features tend to go unnoticed. Windows 11 is no exception, since a nifty little KDE feature has made its way to Microsoft's operating system, since you can now adjust the volume of your PC simply by hovering your mouse over the volume icon.

Previously on Windows, it was necessary to click on the icon and then adjust the volume, But a Microsoft software engineer named Jen Gentleman pointed out a new feature in Reddit and Twitter which enables you to hover over the volume icon in the tray and scroll with the mouse wheel to adjust the volume. It is a bit faster than the old method.

After happily tweeting the new feature, Gentleman got quite a humorous response from the KDE community. the Pío said: “welcome to [sic] the club!”.

KDE Plasma Linux users have known and loved this feature for a long time, therefore that's where the joke comes from. Despite this, apart from the jokes, it's a useful feature and we're glad to see it on Windows 11. Small quality of life changes like this can make a big difference in terms of usability, and it's great to see Microsoft adapt to the times, even if the function is a few years late.

At this time, this feature is only enabled for Windows users 11 on the Windows Insider Dev channel, so if you are running Beta channel or stable version of Windows 11, still won't work for you. Presumably Microsoft plans to bring the feature to release versions of Windows 11, but we are not sure when it will happen.
